International Customs Day is celebrated under the aegis of World Customs Organization (WCO) headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. WCO is recognized as the voice of the global customs community with 180 Customs Administrations as members worldwide. Each year International Customs Day is celebrated with a specific theme. This year the theme is “Customs Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose”.
During the last financial year 2022-23, Visakhapatnam Customs contributed revenue of Rs 15,990.62 crores to the national exchequer. This fiscal year up to December 2023, Customs Revenue collection is Rs11,757.82 crores, while the target is Rs 16,942 crores for the financial year 2023-2024, said Sanjay Pant, Chief Commissioner of Customs, Visakhapatnam GST and Customs Zone , Visakhapatnam and N Sridhar, Principal Commissioner of Customs, Custom House, Visakhapatnam.
Visakhapatnam Customs is playing a significant role in nation building through revenue collection, trade facilitation and safeguarding the economic integrity of the country. Visakhapatnam Customs has jurisdiction over the ports at Visakhapatnam and Gangavaram and Visakhapatnam International Airport, various CFSs and Container Terminal ( VCTPL), they added.
